Clitoral politics: Feminist Art Practice

Thumbnail Image, Katie Brake

This studio course, designed by Melissa Potter, considered how the male gaze affects visual culture, concepts of the erotic, desire, and self-expression. The course used artistic strategies to imagine new woman-positive, non-binary, and gender-fluid futures. Through an exploration of projects such as Cliteracy by artist Sophia Wallace, texts on pornography culture including authors such as Audrey Lorde and Andrea Dworkin, students were encouraged to challenge their own assumptions about representation.

The course culminated in a zine project, which can be viewed and downloaded here.
